The
Challenge

The Ruderman Family Foundation is the international leader in disability inclusion. Each year, the foundation awards one influencer who has made an extraordinary contribution to the inclusion of people with disabilities with the "Morton E. Ruderman Award in Inclusion". This is presented at the Inclusion Summit in Boston, MA gathering over 1,000 attendees internationally.

To assist with this, UCO was asked to produce an award recipient video and PSA documentary of Marlee Matlin – the only actress to have ever won an Oscar being deaf and a long-time inclusion proponent in Hollywood.

Our challenge was capturing the essence of Marlee’s advocacy and legacy effectively and within a very brief period of time.

THE
VIDEOS

We traveled to Los Angeles, CA to facilitate a three-day shoot.

We coordinated interviews with many of the close individuals within Marlee’s life, including Danny Woodburn of Seinfeld, Anne Sweeney - former co-chair of Disney, and executive producers from ABC’s Switched at Birth. This allowed up to better capture her character and advocacy in inclusion.

Our work included obtaining film permits in Burbank and Hollywood as well as obtaining licensing of usage from the Oscars, Seinfeld, and Sesame Street to incorporate and enhance the essence of Marlee.

We are not defined by our senses, nor are we are defined by our lack of abilities

Resonance is in the heart, not the ear, and that’s where true ability resides

IN THE
MEDIA

The below news sources wrote about Marlee Matlin and her achievement as an activist in winning the Ruderman Foundation's "Morton E. Ruderman Award in Inclusion".

We are humbled to have worked with a foundation and individual who has made such an impact on the world!

Past recipients include Michael Phelps (Olympic athlete with most gold medals ever), Dr. Michael Stein (professor at Harvard Law School), and Senator Tom Harkin (former United States Senator).
