The
Challenge

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited life-threatening genetic disease that affects the respiratory system, digestive system, and all areas of the body that have a mucous membrane.

Being an orphan disease (affects a small percentage of people), it is nearly impossible to articulate what people living with CF go through on a daily basis and throughout their lives.

As a means to amplify the understanding of CF, UCO funded and executively produced a short film called “Three Lives” (in association with the Just Breathe Foundation), utilizing metaphors and symbolism to better communicate the underlying essence of the disease and what it represents metaphysically.

THE
ShORT FILM

At the surface, our film highlights the lifestyles of three individuals diagnosed with the disease. Much deeper, it’s a relatable metaphor to the dichotomy of life and its connection to the meaning of a breath.

The core of "Three Lives" explores this essence of life (pain versus pleasure) where cystic fibrosis is a means of just emphasizing the pain we all go through as humans.

"Three Lives: A Film about Cystic FIbrosis" was debuted at the Just Breathe Foundation’s annual Cystic Fibrosis Christmas Ball and has been requested for screenings by groups throughout the United States.

Behind
the scenes

As a way to showcase just really what went into the full production, we knew it was important to capture the crew immersed into their work and key members in action.

Special thanks to Alexi Stoinis for all the BTS photography.

IN
EVENT EXHIBIT

At the Cystic Fibrosis Christmas Ball, we collaborated with Vital Signs to build an exhibit with interactive boards, a cast and crew showcase, and DVD’s.

The interactive boards allowed attendees to answer why they breathed by taking a rubber band and connecting the center nail to the appropriate word that resonated most.

As expected, the interactive boards engaged and connected nearly all attendees at this event. The rubber bands at first created the design of a snowflake (purposely for the Christmas ball) and then turned into an incredible geometric design, again emphasizing interconnectivity among all. 🙏🏼
